How we chose

We compare 112 security cameras at 8 sellers, from Quebec hardware stores to brands sold online. This ranking keeps one camera per need, among the models of ANRAN, ARCCTV and Botslab, the three camera brands in our catalogue that sell online at Canadian-market prices and ship to Canada.

We did not test these cameras ourselves. We compare what can be checked: the manufacturer’s product page, the Canadian-market price and the terms of sale. A spec that the page does not publish, or contradicts, is not written.

The “See at” links are affiliate links: Buildsavr earns a commission if you buy, at no cost to you. The price shown is our catalogue’s, the same for everyone.

  • The cold: the published operating temperature. In Canada, −20 °C at least for a battery-powered outdoor camera.
  • Storage: a microSD card or a base station at home, so you do not depend on a subscription.
  • The real price: the store’s Canadian-market price, with delivery and customs stated.
  • The warranty: 1 year at all three, extended if you register the device (2 years at ARCCTV, 18 months at ANRAN and Botslab).

Two 4K cameras and a base station that keeps the videos at home, from 32 GB up to 16 TB, with no monthly fee according to Botslab. The same system sells in kits of 4, 5, 6 and 8 cameras. The catch, and it is a serious one: PCWorld, which tested it in 2026, lists “extremely poor wireless range” among its cons. Keep the cameras close to the base station, or plan for it in the middle of the house.

What about hardware stores?

In Quebec, Canac, BMR, Patrick Morin, Gagnon and Laferté carry a few Wi-Fi cameras, including garage door cameras. You pay in Canadian dollars and leave with the device, but the choice is thin: no solar or cellular camera on their shelves in our catalogue. The table compares the sellers, and our price guide details each type.

The three online brands: ANRAN, ARCCTV and Botslab

ANRAN and ARCCTV are the same company. ANRAN is the brand of Shenzhen Anran Security Technology, founded in 2011 in Shenzhen. ARCCTV presents itself as a brand founded in 2018 in Hong Kong, but its privacy policy gives the same Kowloon address as ANRAN’s Hong Kong entity, its Android app is published by Shenzhen Anran, and the two stores sell identical models under both names. Pick between them on the model and the price, not the brand.

Botslab runs a Canadian store, in Canadian dollars, operated by Smart Network Co. Limited. Its privacy policy says the data of users in the Americas is stored in the United States.

What none of the three offers: a Canadian phone number. Support goes through email and a US number. And the base warranty is 1 year at all three: the extension advertised on their product pages requires registering the device with the brand.

Independent tests are rare. None of the big consumer outlets (Wirecutter, CNET, Protégez-Vous) has published a test of these models that we know of. PCWorld tested Botslab’s W510 system in 2026: good image and expandable local storage, but “extremely poor wireless range”.

Before you buy: four checks for a Canadian winter

The details, with sources, are in our price guide: the cold and the winter sun, the connection, the subscription and what you are allowed to record.

  • The operating temperature: −20 °C at least for a battery-powered outdoor camera. A lithium battery does not charge below 0 °C.
  • Wi-Fi where the camera will go: most battery cameras only pick up 2.4 GHz.
  • The sound: turn off audio recording if the camera can pick up passers-by talking. The Criminal Code forbids intercepting a private communication.
  • The angle: the security of your home, never the neighbour’s yard or windows.

The table shows the trend. The real verdict is on your own list.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions

What is the best outdoor security camera for a Canadian winter?

A solar camera rated for −20 °C or colder, with microSD storage. Our first pick is the ANRAN QV4M5, at $139.77 in our catalogue: −20 °C to 50 °C according to ANRAN, an 8 W panel, 360° rotation.

What is a good cheap wireless security camera?

The ANRAN Q1 Max, at $97.83: solar, 5 MP, rated for −20 °C by ANRAN. To cover the whole house, compare the price per camera of the kits: it drops for most models, not all.

Which security camera works without Wi-Fi?

A 4G cellular camera, such as the ARCCTV G5 Max ($103.42). It needs a SIM card and a data plan: check the coverage and the cost of the plan in Canada before you buy.

What is the best security camera for renters?

A window camera, mounted indoors against the glass, such as the Botslab W101 ($95.99): nothing is drilled or fixed to the building. In Quebec, the Civil Code says a tenant may not change the form of the leased property, and the Tribunal administratif du logement has already had cameras removed that filmed beyond the dwelling.

Is there a security camera without a subscription?

Yes. All ten cameras in this ranking record to a microSD card or to a base station at home. The Botslab W510 system keeps up to 16 TB of video at home, with no monthly fee according to Botslab.

Do these cameras work in winter?

Read each model’s operating temperature. ANRAN rates the QV4M5 for −20 °C to 50 °C, Botslab the W315 for −20 °C to 60 °C, but ARCCTV rates its battery cameras for −10 °C to 50 °C. In December, in Montreal, a solar panel produces a little more than half of its June output.

Where can I buy a security camera in Canada?

Online from ANRAN, ARCCTV or Botslab, which sell at Canadian-market prices and ship to Canada, for solar and cellular cameras and complete systems. In Quebec, hardware stores (Canac, BMR, Patrick Morin, Gagnon, Laferté) carry simple Wi-Fi cameras, paid in Canadian dollars. Our price guide compares all the sellers.

Does this ranking apply outside Quebec?

Yes. The ten cameras come from three brands that sell online at one Canadian-market price and ship to Canada, so the picks and their prices hold wherever you live. Only the hardware store comparison on this page is Quebec data.
