The price at every store we track

The table is the price of one 10 ft corrugated steel roofing sheet at each Quebec retailer, seen September 24, 2026. Matério is cheapest at $45.99 and Patrick Morin the priciest at $48.50, a gap of $2.51 per sheet (5.5 percent).

These are not copies of one sheet. A store may list a galvanized sheet and another a galvalume one, and the width, profile and gauge can differ from one listing to the next. Read the specification of the sheet you are buying before you decide a store is cheaper.

How to compare sheets that are not identical

Compare the price per square foot of roof covered, not the price per sheet. A sheet is wider overall than the width it covers, because neighbouring sheets overlap. The effective width is on the manufacturer specification.

As a worked example, a 10 ft sheet with a 30 inch effective width covers 25 square feet. At that coverage the range above works out to $1.84 to $1.94 per square foot of roof. Your sheet may cover more or less, so run the same division with your own figure.

The sheet is only part of a metal roof. Budget for the screws with sealing washers, the ridge cap, the closure strips, the flashings and the underlayment. We do not track those yet, so we will not quote them.

Galvanized, galvalume or painted

Galvanized steel carries a zinc coating. Galvalume is steel coated with an aluminum-zinc alloy, which generally resists corrosion better in the same exposure. Painted sheets add a colour finish over the coating and cost more. The coating and the paint warranty are on the manufacturer sheet, and they are worth reading, because that is what decides how long the roof lasts.

Gauge is the steel thickness, and a lower number means thicker steel. A thinner gauge is cheaper and dents more easily, which matters under snow and hail. Pick it for the building, not the price.

Metal or shingles

Steel sheets cost more up front than asphalt shingles per square foot of roof, and last longer. For a cabin, a barn or a shed that is hard to reach, the lifespan can win. For a house in a city, shingles are more common. Run both through the same arithmetic, with the real roof area and the real accessories.

Many exposed-fastener metal panels call for a minimum roof slope, often 3 in 12 or more. Check the manufacturer rule before you buy, because a slope that is too shallow will leak.

In your province: what Statistics Canada says

The shelf prices on this page are what Quebec retailers charge. If you build somewhere else, the best official yardstick we have is Statistics Canada's building construction price index, which follows what builders pay for residential building as a whole in each province.

Quebec, where our shelf prices come from, reads 113.3, up 5.0% on a year earlier. Alberta is highest at 117.8 and Ontario lowest at 106.6 in the second quarter of 2026. These are cost indexes set to 100 in a base period: they say how fast residential building costs have moved in each province, not what a single item sells for at your local store. We will publish real shelf prices for your province as it goes live.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions

How much does a metal roofing sheet cost?

As of September 24, 2026, a 10 ft corrugated steel roofing sheet costs $45.99 to $48.50 at the Quebec retailers Buildsavr tracks, before tax. Matério is cheapest at $45.99 and Patrick Morin the priciest at $48.50, a gap of $2.51 per sheet (5.5 percent).

Is metal roofing more expensive than shingles?

Per square foot of roof, the material usually costs more than asphalt shingles and lasts longer. Compare the full systems with the real roof area, including screws, flashings, ridge caps and underlayment, and then compare quotes for labour.

What is the difference between galvanized and galvalume?

Galvanized steel has a zinc coating. Galvalume is steel with an aluminum-zinc alloy coating, which generally holds up better against corrosion. The manufacturer warranty tells you what the coating is rated for.

What roof slope does a corrugated metal roof need?

Many exposed-fastener panels call for a slope of at least 3 in 12, and low-slope roofs need a different system. The minimum slope is on the manufacturer specification, so follow that, and check your building code.

How do I work out how many sheets I need?

Divide the width of the roof by the effective width of the sheet and round up, then check the length. Add the sheets for the second slope and for any overhang. The effective width is on the specification, and it is smaller than the overall width because of the overlap.

Does this metal roofing price apply outside Quebec?

Not directly. Every price on this page is what a Quebec retailer charged on the date shown. Buildsavr is live in Quebec today and rolling out province by province, so we do not publish shelf prices for other provinces yet. Statistics Canada's construction price indexes, quoted on this page, show how building costs differ from one province to the next, but only a store's own tag tells you what you will pay.
