OSB price in Canada: what a 7/16 inch sheet costs at Quebec retailers

The table is the price of one 7/16 inch 4x8 OSB sheet at each Quebec retailer, seen October 13, 2026. BMR is cheapest at $13.98 and lauremat the priciest at $16.74, a gap of $2.76 per sheet (20 percent).

A sheet covers 32 square feet, so the range works out to $0.44 to $0.52 per square foot.

Sheets needed is the surface to cover divided by 32, plus about 10 percent for cuts. For 1,000 sq ft of roof that is 35 sheets.

At the prices above, 35 sheets cost $489 at the cheapest store we track and $586 at the priciest, before tax. That is the panel only, with no clips, nails or labour.

Measure the real roof surface, which is larger than the footprint of the house because of the slope. The thickness and span rating you need depend on your rafter or truss spacing and on your building code, so check them before you order.

OSB is made of wood strands pressed with resin into a panel. It is widely used for wall and roof sheathing and, in thicker tongue-and-groove sheets, for subfloors. Keep it dry: the edges swell if a sheet sits in the rain, so cover it and close in the building quickly.

A subfloor panel is a thicker, tongue-and-groove product sold at a higher price per sheet. The table compares it with the 7/16 inch sheathing panel and with plywood.

The shelf prices on this page are what Quebec retailers charge. If you build somewhere else, the best official yardstick we have is Statistics Canada's building construction price index, which follows what builders pay for wood, plastics and composites in a single-detached house in each province.

Quebec, where our shelf prices come from, reads 118.8, up 5.0% on a year earlier. That is the highest of the 9 provinces Statistics Canada tracks, and Ontario is lowest at 97.4 in the second quarter of 2026. These are cost indexes set to 100 in a base period: they say how fast lumber and panel costs have moved in each province, not what a single item sells for at your local store. We will publish real shelf prices for your province as it goes live.
